comfrey root

Comfrey Root & allantoin.

1. Circulatory Support

Comfrey can improve microcirculation in damaged or stagnant tissues, indirectly aiding lymph movement. This makes it useful in topical compresses or salves for swollen legs, lymphatic congestion, or joint inflammation.

2. Reduces Inflammation and Swelling

Comfrey contains allantoin, rosmarinic acid, and mucilage compounds that speed up cell regeneration and calm inflammation. When lymphatic stagnation or swollen nodes are due to injury, inflammation, or edema, comfrey can help reduce swelling and may promote tissue repair.

Blood Purifier Tincture; homage to Dr. Oliver. P. Brown - Sacred Infusions Apothecary

Stillinigia root

Queen's Delight.

Stillingia root (Stillingia sylvatica), sometimes called Queen’s Delight, is a potent alterative, lymphagogue, and detoxifying herb that played a major role in 19th-century North American herbal medicine — especially in lymphatic, glandular, and skin conditions associated with sluggish elimination.

Paying Homage.

I discovered this herb and its abililty to clear the lymphatic system from Dr Oliver P. Brown's The Complete Herbalist. First published in 1809. Dr. Brown wrote extensively on the uses of Queen's Delight in regard to the lymphatic system.

Alterative and Detoxifying Actions

Herbalists classify stillingia as a “deep alterative” — meaning it helps restore normal function to the body’s eliminative organs (liver, lymph, skin, and kidneys). This makes it valuable for chronic conditions like eczema, psoriasis, acne, or systemic toxicity, where the lymphatic system is overloaded.

It works best in combination with other alteratives like:

  • Burdock root (Arctium lappa)
  • Red clover (Trifolium pratense)
  • Oregon grape root (Mahonia aquifolium)
  • Sarsaparilla (Smilax spp.)

Pau d'Arco Bark

🌿 How Pau d’Arco Supports the Lymphatic System

1. Cleanses and Reduces Lymphatic Load

The lymphatic system helps remove cellular waste, microbes, and toxins from tissues. Pau d’Arco’s broad-spectrum antimicrobial compounds — especially lapachol and beta-lapachone — can help reduce the overall microbial and toxic burden in the body, easing pressure on the lymphatic system.

2. Blood and Lymph Detoxification

Traditional Amazonian and South American herbalism classify Pau d’Arco as a “blood purifier”, used to cleanse the blood and support the skin and lymphatic pathways.

Today, Western herbalists use Pau d' Arco Bark for skin eruptions, boils, and chronic inflammatory or infectious conditions — all of which can reflect poor lymphatic clearance.

castor oil

🌿 Castor Oil and the Lymphatic System

1. Stimulates Lymphatic Circulation

Castor oil applied topically has been shown (in both traditional and clinical contexts) to improve AND promote lymphatic drainage, while increasing good lymph counts such as, lymphocytes.

Lymphocytes — a type of white blood cell — are produced and stored in lymphatic tissue. Castor oil seems to:

  • Stimulate the activity of the thymus gland
  • Enhance lymphocyte production
  • Promote movement of lymph fluid through tissues

This helps clear cellular waste, toxins, and excess fluids from the body, reducing stagnation and inflammation.

sunflower oil

🌻 Sunflower Oil and the Lymphatic System

1. Supports Healthy Circulation and Lymph Flow (Topically)

Because sunflower oil is light, absorbable, and rich in vitamin E and linoleic acid, it not only supports the skin and acts as a protective barrier against free radicals, it also supports the cardiovascular system.

High oleic sunflower oil is high in monounsaturated fats (omega-9), which have anti-inflammatory properties and support cardiovascular health.

  • Lymphatic drainage, especially when used in manual massage toward the heart

  • Tissue detoxification, by helping move stagnant interstitial fluid.

Egyptian Geranium
:

Detoxifying, helps clear fluid retention.

It’s often called the “balancer” of aromatherapy — working simultaneously on the lymphatic, circulatory, nervous, and endocrine systems.

1. Promotes Lymphatic Drainage and Fluid Balance

Egyptian geranium has strong diuretic and circulatory properties.

→ It helps move stagnant lymph and reduce water retention, especially in areas like:

  • Legs and ankles
  • Underarms
  • Face and neck (puffiness)

It gently stimulates lymph vessel contraction, helping move toxins and excess fluid back into circulation.

Frankincense
:

Energizing while improving flow and reduces inflammation. Promotes Lymphatic Flow and Detoxification

Frankincense improves microcirculation and cellular detox, encouraging the movement of stagnant lymph.

By supporting the body’s natural detox processes, it:

  • Helps reduce fluid buildup
  • Supports tissue repair and oxygenation
  • Enhances immune cell communication within lymphatic tissues
