  • Ingredients

(1:5 40%)Valeriana officinalis L. Valerian root, Certified Gluten Free Vodka 6x distilled.

  • Suggested Use

These dosages are for adults only.

Stress and anxiety: 10 drops 3x daily

For sudden muscles spams and cramping: 1/2 tsp - 1 tsp 2x daily

    For insomnia: 5 mL

  • Contraindications

While valerian is generally safe, and almost always produces a sedative like effect, some individuals are stimulated from valerian. If you are new to trying valerian, be sure to try valerian in small doses, during the day, to see how you are effected.

    For instance,

valerian essential oil causes our herbalist to become stimulated, but the valerian root (fresh or dry) does not cause stimulation.

valerian valeriana officinalis

sedative

The therapuetic effects of valerian have been documented since antiquity, by Hippocrates. It was later prescribed by Galen for insomnia.

Valerian binds to GABA-a receptors, and enhances the binding of GABA to its receptors. This may be due to valerian containing constituents such as valporites.

Valerian is often confused with valium which is a powerful and sometimes harmful pharmaceutical product. These two share nothing in common. Valium is not derivied from valerian. Their mechanism's of action may be similar in ways of the receptors it binds too, but it is not similar in nature.

Valerian binds to GABA-a receptors which enhances the uptake of GABA in the brain.

Valerian has a mechanism of action similar to benzodiazepines; however, instead of binding to the gamma subunit like a benzodiazepine (valium),it appears to bind to the beta subunit on the GABA-A receptor instead.

vodka

the solvent

We use six times distilled, organic, cerifited gluten free Vodka as the solvet to extract the medicinal constituents from valerian root.

Vodka is often used in tincture making because it is tasteless, and contains no additional ingredients.
