Fire Cider is the perfect example of food as medicine. With that being said, I must add, there is no herbal tonic, or supplement that will “save you”. You must be practicing good health hygiene. Getting plenty of rest, drinking enough water, maintaining healthy eating habits, exercise and most importantly limiting stress.

Fire Cider is an herbal tonic, that supports and nourishes the immune system. No one “owns” Fire Cider. it’s been passed down from generation to generation. It was made popular to the public in the 1970’s thanks to one of my herbal teachers and fellow keeper of the green, Rosemary Gladstar. Fire Cider enhances your body’s immune system with the powerhouse herbs it contains. Abundant in benefits, I’ve listed a few down below. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to ask.

Note* This recipe was made with extra honey than traditional Fire cider. Making it a great option for kids, or for those who don’t like spicy foods.

  • Apple Cider Vinegar – digestive aid.
  • Horseradish – diuretic and promotes perspiration, making it useful during colds, and flu. Relieves sinus congestion, and headaches. Natural antibiotic. After being crushed the sinigrin produces what is called ‘allyl isothiocyanate’ which is an antibiotic substance.
  • Garlic – contains vitamins A, B, C, and E. Anti-bacterial, anti-microbial. The natural antibiotic was used before the development of antibiotics. (Fun fact- in the First World War they dressed wounds with garlic.) Expectorant, which reduces mucus. Helps lower cholesterol.
  • Lemon – abundant in Vitamin C. antioxidant.
  • Jalapeno – rich in vitamins A, C, and Potassium. Carotene an antioxidant that helps fight damage to your cells. Folate, and Vit K, and B vitamins. Capsaicin. Stimulates the immune system and speeds up cell recovery.
  • Turmeric – anti-inflammatory, eases stomach pain, antioxidant. Anti-bacterial. Improves circulation.
  • Local Tennessee Raw Honey – anti-bacterial, anti-microbial, and anti-inflammatory. Honey is used in this recipe to marry everything together and mellow the spicy powerhouse herbs. Not only for your taste buds but your entire digestive system.
